The One SVU Character Fans Are Happy Not to Be Dealing With Anymore
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) is the type of show that presents audiences with characters they either love or hate.
In general, the detectives and prosecutors are depicted as the "good guys" while the suspects and others getting questioned by law enforcement are the "bad guys." Meanwhile, every other supporting character usually exists in some type of gray area.
The only exception, of course, is Reverend Curtis Scott. The priest first appears in season 15 of Law & Order (S15, E3: "American Tragedy").
In the episode, Reverend Scott advocates for the innocence of Mehcad Carter, who is accused of serial rape. It's a trend that continues throughout subsequent seasons of SVU since the priest is notorious for turning up anytime there is a whiff of controversy. And, it's a habit that not everyone on Reddit takes kindly to.
While Reverend Scott may exist for good intentions, many Redditors are not a fan of the character.

True, while he may present wholesome values and reasons for demanding real justice in America, many also accuse Curtis of having selfish motives.
He's quick to defend anyone that is a victim of racial discrimination yet also notorious for desiring the spotlight. In fact, Scott uses the victims to promote his own agenda and frequently turns to the media as an effective method for spreading his propaganda.
It truly doesn't matter to him whether the individual is innocent or if justice will be provided for the victim. He's just like Bayard Ellis, or Reverend Al Sharpton – whom Redditors believe were sources of inspiration when crafting the character, Curtis Scott. Sadly, as another poster reminded, is also typical behavior of public figures attempting to maintain popularity and prestige.
Still, Reverend Scott may have an appetite for attention but that also doesn't make him a bad person. Quite the opposite, as many argue on Reddit. He's the type of recurring character that audiences enjoy or despise, and that's part of the element which makes Law & Order: SVU so good.

Curtis, after all, is the only consistent and passionate voice for a community desperately in need of an advocate. Yes, he is notorious for being overzealous and chasing trouble, but does that really make him awful? Perhaps the character is only misguided when he criticizes the Special Victims Unit?
In the end, it comes down to personal opinion. You may root for Reverend Curtis Scott or frankly dislike him, but at least he's trying to make a difference in his community. And for some, that's more than enough even if he goes about it the wrong way.
