Sometimes the show is so good that you would pay a lot to stay in that universe forever. But all journeys must come to an end, and when they reach that point and choose to keep going, it can get messy.
The entertainment industry is full of cases when studios just cannot seem to let go of a particular story. Whether it's greed or a genuine desire to create something bigger and better, almost every reboot, sequel, or expansion ends up ruining the beloved original to the point of no return.
Here are the five worst examples of TV shows and movies that should never have been remade.
1. The Office
With the recent news of the producers getting their hands on the most valuable sitcom of the 2000s and 2010s, it's easy to see why the Internet is buzzing. Even though original series creator Greg Daniels will reportedly helm the show, many fans still aren't too thrilled about the reboot. In general, people fear that the new version of The Office will lack the charm of the old one.
2. Gilmore Girls
This is one of those shows you'd better get right or don't touch at all. Aside from the plot and characters, Gilmore Girls episodes were known to be very fast-paced and dynamic due to the number of script pages that exceeded the usual for a sitcom. Netflix failed to recreate that magic in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, so no one else should try.
3. Harry Potter
Harry Potter was a staple of many people's childhoods, but that doesn't mean the story as it is isn't appropriate for kids today. If anything, the iconic films are still on par with other major fantasy productions, so the HBO reboot is the last thing anyone needs to see. People just hope that Hogwarts doesn't turn into a Euphoria- style high school.
4. Gossip Girl
The Gossip Girl reboot failed so badly for one very obvious reason: the show just doesn't make sense with all the technology available in the 2020s. Back in 2007, Gossip Girl's anonymous messages were scandalous and juicy, and people really saw her as a threat. Today, it's just another Tumblr blog.
5. Ghostbusters
As much as people love the original story, recreating it with all the female leads felt pointless. Whacky graphics really didn’t help either, making the reboot not worth watching at all. In any remake, there should be an improvement, and for Ghostbusters there was none at all.
