The Must-See List: 20 '90s Movies Every Kid Today Should Watch
Maybe that's our 90s kids' nostalgia talking, but we were raised on these movies, and the 00s kids were also raised on these movies, so why the kids of the 10s and the 20s shouldn't be raised on them?
We can't think of a good reason to have a list of the 90s kid classics.
In the past 30 or so years, lots of great movies suitable for kids have been released. But that doesn't mean that the ones that got on the screens in the 90s got worse.
The main point of the movies of the 90s is that the majority of them were created purely for entertainment. They didn't have any layer of social commentary on top of whatever the movie is actually about, but it seems like that's how things are going now. And we adore the 90s movies for this simplicity.
Sure, as with any other kid-friendly movie, we, the grown-ups who watch them now, see things that we didn't notice when we were young: there are lots of carefully masked sarcastic comments about life and nudges to the other popular franchises. But the essence stays purely entertaining, and that's what's so precious about them.
Here's the list of all the 90s films mentioned here: Space Jam (1996), Home Alone ( 1990), The Addams Family (1991), Wayne's World (1992), Aladdin (1992), The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Jurassic Park (1993), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), The Lion King ( 1994), Forrest Gump (1994), The Santa Clause (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), Toy Story (1995), Babe (1995), Jumanji (1995), Men in Black (1997), Godzilla ( 1998), A Bug's Life (1998), Tarzan (1999), Big Daddy (1999).
