The Most Underrated Apple TV+ Drama With 98% on RT Just Made the Top 5

It's been two years since the first episode of Slow Horses premiered, but all this time the critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes remains unchanged at 98%. These impressive numbers are backed up by a user rating of 94%, and judging by that, viewers are just as impressed as critics with the holey socks of Gary Oldman 's character, who is undoubtedly the show's main advantage.

Even if Slow Horses had nothing more to offer than Oldman, it would still be worth seeing. But there's something else about the show – something that will keep you glued to the screen.

What is Slow Horses About?

The Apple TV+ hit is based on the spy novel series Slough House by British author Mick Herron.

The plot revolves around the everyday life of Slough House, a department of MI5 where agents who have failed their missions are sent.

The department's employees, known as "slow horses," are forced to do boring paperwork and put up with the eccentric behavior of their boss, Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), who drinks cheap whiskey at work.

Slow Horses is a Brilliant Mix of Different Genres

Slow Horses is a spy thriller, a black comedy about losers, and a drama about redemption. The show's creators juggle genres without favoring one over the other – all components coexist harmoniously within the framework of 45-minute episodes.

Even if you are not a fan of espionage thrillers and are always confused by their plot twists, Slow Horses is worth giving a chance.

At least for the atmosphere of autumn London and the trio of some of the most outstanding British actors – Gary Oldman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Jonathan Pryce. Just watching them is pure cinephile pleasure, even if you do not quite understand what is happening on the screen.

Slow Horses feels like a meta-version of classic spy stories turned upside down. While the Bond producers search for the next 007 and the secret ingredient that will help refresh the franchise, the show's writers create a project with enough horsepower to maintain the same high level for several more seasons.

And with Gary Oldman threatening to end his acting career when the series ends, it is in our best interest to hope that the show lasts as long as possible.
