The Moment DC Cinematic Universe Went Off the Rails For Good
This is when it all went wrong for DCU.
Now that many DC fans are giving up on the beloved superhero world amid yet another shake-up, some people are trying to look back at the tumultuous journey of the cinematic universe and pinpoint the exact moment when things went wrong for DC.
It looks like pretty much everyone is ready to agree that the "nail in the coffin" of DC was Batman vs Superman movie. A lot went wrong with the film, starting from the studio's apparent desire to rival with Marvel's Captain America: Civil War and ending with Warner Bros. "making both superheroes morally questionable".
According to fans, "it was just a bad setup for a cinematic universe" that ended up ruining DCU instead of giving it a boost.
"The hype for this film was overwhelming at the time with the variety of marketing released, even over a year before release. The film, combined with its rushing into the storyline of the Justice League's forming, could never hope to live up to expectations," Twitter user Densetsu1000 said.
Other fans noted that DC was doomed when Warner Bros. started to "meddle" in the movies, particularly when Suicide Squad "ruined" Joker and turned him into a "joke". One fan appeared to have perfectly summed up the studio's biggest mistake, saying that it all went wrong "when Warner wanted DC to be like Marvel instead of being DC."
Sorry, Cavill: Pattinson is the New Face of DCU, and It's The Worst Gunn's Decision So Far
Some people think that there was only one person who could have been able to let DC be its own unique self.
"When they decided to cut 30 minutes of BVS, turn suicide squad into deadpool, and get rid of Zack Snyder to reshoot Justice League, and turned the batman into garbage after Ben left. This is pure panic mode since 2016. If they have followed Zack we would have 3 JL movies by now," Twitter user Raphael_2D noted.
Now that DCU is led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, another slew of changes lies ahead, with Henry Cavill officially out as Superman just weeks after coming back in Black Adam, and Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman apparently left without the third movie. When it comes to Dwayne Johnson 's antihero, Black Adam is also "unlikely" to receive a sequel.
Aquaman 2: Will the Skyrocketing Budget Drown the Film?
Still, Gunn and Safran seem to have their own vision. Who knows, maybe from now on, the only way is up?
