The most iconic character from The Incredibles has been unfairly sidelined.

Ed-na Mo-de (yes, we know you read that in her voice) is a character that only appears in The Incredibles for a couple of minutes but steals the entire show with her attitude and the Devil Wears Prada vibes. Edna could be Pixar's own Cruella if the studio actually made a prequel about her that fans so desperately want for almost a decade now.

The superhero fashion designer could actually be a perfect prequel material, with BuzzFeed's fan theory offering what actually could be a dramatic spinoff about Edna you never knew you needed. And it is only based on a certain thing that Edna hates the most in superhero costumes: capes.

No capes, darling! That's what Edna makes clear from the very first moment when Mr. Incredible swings by to order a new super suit. Edna comes up with an extensive list of superheroes who died because of how unpractical capes are, but the fan theory offers a far more heart-wrenching background for the designer's hatred towards this particular piece of clothing.

One Iconic '00s Comedy is Never Going to Get a Sequel, and Maybe It's a Good Thing

According to the theory, the prequel should follow young Edna who is straight out of the design school, and she falls in love with a person who turns out to be a superhero. Edna gets disgusted with the way their costume looks and naturally, she offers her creative help in designing a new one. Her first attempt turns out to be so successful that now every super wants a suit from her — until something tragic happens.

"Edna ultimately marries her partner, but something awful happens... Her significant other tragically dies in a cape-related accident while trying to save the world," the fan theory continues, suggesting that this is the true reason why Edna is so against capes.

First of all, don't tell us you're not up for young Edna Mode building up her own superhero fashion empire while being an icon in the process. Secondly, her true reasons for hating capes is just heart-wrenching enough to make the prequel worth happening, like, right now.

Edna, who obviously never looks back, would not share her tragic story with everyone, even Mr. Incredible, so that's why we never knew it before. However, the prequel could be a great combination of a love story with superpowers and the "villain origin story", except make it a "fashion icon origin story" instead.

With Pixar releasing a sequel to The Incredibles in 2018 (despite it being more than a decade since the original movie came out), there is hope that the super universe is not forgotten by the studio. Who knows, maybe its most iconic character will make a bombshell return after all?
