The Idol: Blackpink's Jennie Explains How She Nailed E1's Most Challenging Scene
This scene has become the highlight of the series so far.
The first episode of the controversial series The Idol has been released, and the first impressions are out there.
In Cannes, despite a five-minute standing ovation after the premiere of the first two episodes, the project received devastating reviews.
The creators were accused of relying on nudity and provocative scenes, and the series ended up with the lowest ratings in HBO history (yet).
Now, viewers have spoken, and although there were some who left positive reviews, the majority again criticized the show, calling the first episode "toxic" and "disturbing."
However, one positive aspect of the series was recognized even by those who did not like the first episode at all – this is Jennie from Blackpink.
Jennie plays a backup dancer and close friend of the main character Jocelyn, played by Lily-Rose Depp. Immediately after the release of the first episode, many viewers agreed that Jennie's presence on the show was the only reason to watch The Idol.
Many especially liked the dance rehearsal scene, which Jennie handled gracefully and effortlessly.
In an interview, the K-pop idol talked about preparing for the scene: "I didn't have a lot of time to learn the choreography for the dance scenes. But thankfully, I do this all the time, so it came naturally to me."
The lack of long preparation is even more impressive, as many viewers claim that Jennie handled the choreography even better than the main star, Lily-Rose Depp.
The series follows the complicated and addictive relationship between young pop star Jocelyn and her mentor and lover, nightclub owner Tedros, who is also the mastermind behind a mysterious cult.
The series was in hot water even before its Cannes premiere: insiders said the show ended up being completely different from what was originally intended, and nicknamed it "torture porn."
The director, Sam Levinson, who had been busy with Euphoria while working on The Idol, decided to reshoot all the material that had been created without him, and in the end, nothing remained of the original idea.
Well, now The Idol is at the viewers' mercy. The next episode premieres on June 11.
