The Hot Crime Thriller Currently Topping Netflix Stars Our Favorites From Élite
Don’t miss this top-tier must-watch from Spain!
Summary:
- Netflix ’s top is now stormed by the Spanish crime movie, following the rise of a young man, involved in money laundering business in the early 2000s.
- It assembles the cast from Netflix’s hit show, Élite.
Back in 2018, the world saw Netflix’s Élite series, focusing on three working-class students who enroll at the elite high school in Spain. Its glowing success made the worldwide celebrities of its young actors, who continued to conquer the charts.
In particular, two of the show’s main stars shined in this crime flick, which is now holding the 2nd place in Netflix’s global top after it was added to the platform on May 10. It managed to gain the attention of not only Spanish viewers, but also Netflixers all around the world.
Set in 2002, after Spain entered the Euro, the movie tells a story of the young valet Iván, who finds his town and the opportunities it gives too small for his ambitions. He then becomes a courier for an international organization dedicated to money laundering.
This job becomes life-changing for Iván, who starts to strive for more money and power, as he sees more corruption, frauds and mafia earning the biggest piece of Spain’s money cake. He is quick to end up in a high-voltage battle for his own share of grandeur.
Despite the fact that this synopsis is reminiscent of all typical crime movies about a man daring to have it all after having nothing in his life, this movie stands out as it’s based on real-life events and showdowns happening in Spain in the early 2000s.
It blends the thrilling depiction of the money dealers and the powerful mafia with the story of Iván’s inner struggles and hidden doubts regarding the morality of walking over people. Besides, there is much suspense put throughout his whole path towards power.
Besides, it’s the actors who make it really believable. The strong-willed and courageous Iván is here brilliantly portrayed by the Élite’s Ander actor, Arón Piper, while the rest of the cast assembly Élite’s María Pedraza, Luis Tosar and Laura Sépul.
Titled The Courier (originally El correo), it appears to be a must-watch for all fans of not only crime movies, but also Spanish cinematography that is already full of masterpieces, for example the mysterious Setback, The Platform and, of course, the Money Heist show.
Check out The Courier, as it’s now available for streaming on Netflix.
