Despite being medically accurate, The Good Doctor can be unrealistic in terms of human behavior, fans think.

The popular ABC medical show is famously realistic in every aspect of medicine. However, the show has some pretty unrealistic details when it comes to the way a hospital operates or human relationships work.

Watching a surgeon on the autism spectrum overcome obstacles and succeed in his professional and personal life is empowering for anyone who feels marginalized. But such a concept comes with its own challenges. Much of what Dr. Shaun Murphy says and does may seem unrealistic to both people with Autistic traits and without them.

In the recently aired mid-season finale, the viewers and characters got some controversial news. Shaun and Lea found out Lea was expecting.

Good Doctor Fans Brace for Heartbreak as Character Death Theory Emerges

While it was a long-awaited development, Lea's previous D&C made it extremely risky for her and the fetus. In previous episodes, Lea's OB told her to wait before getting pregnant. However, the pregnancy came unexpectedly which confused some fans.

"How does someone who cares so much about every little detail like Shaun get a girl pregnant by accident, twice?! Sure, birth control can fail, but it's not nearly as common as TV would have us believe," a viewer wrote in a Reddit discussion dedicated to the mid-season finale.

This opinion is totally valid. Considering Shaun and Lea already had an "unexpected pregnancy gone wrong" arc in Season 4, one would think they should pay more attention to birth control. When Lea found out she was pregnant in Season 4, she was not sure whether she was ready to have a child, but Shaun's reaction convinced her that having a baby was a good idea.

However, five months into the pregnancy, Lea suffered a devastating miscarriage that became a tragedy for the couple.

Considering this heartbreaking storyline and knowing how meticulous Shaun usually is, it is hard to believe he got Lea pregnant by accident for the second time. A birth control failure sounds even less plausible.

However, The Good Doctor fans on Reddit quickly came to the show's defense. They explained that the second pregnancy was not accidental but happened after the couple had sex without birth control prior to them finding out about the risks. Such an explanation sounds plausible enough though it doesn't excuse Shaun and Lea's carelessness.
