A plot twist in The Good Doctor mid-season finale made fans wonder whether one of the most beloved characters of the medical show was safe.

The Good Doctor Episode 10 of Season 6, titled Quiet And Loud, ended with some controversial news.

Before a minor procedure to check her hurting finger, Lea had her blood tested, and the result showed she was pregnant. Though Lea and Shaun had long wanted to have a baby, it was not entirely positive news.

The Good Doctor's Latest Plot Twist Has Fans Questioning Its Plausibility

Two episodes prior, they found out that Lea had developed Asherman's syndrome which would make carrying a child very risky for both the mother and the fetus. Lea's OB explicitly told the couple to not get pregnant any time soon. That's why when Lea ran to Shaun with her positive test result, she told him she was scared. Understanding all the possible complications, Shaun put on a brave face and remained strong for his wife.

"Let's do that together," he said, hugging Lea.

While it is an extremely touching moment, fans are not sure this plot twist is designed to have a happy ending. Many viewers are worried Lea's pregnancy will eventually lead to her and the baby's death. Though Lea is one of the fan-favorite characters in the series, killing her off would make much more sense than the couple having a baby, fans think.

"The advertisers don't want to touch the disease vs "neurotype" controversy which would have to be addressed with Shaun's offspring," one of the fans explained on Reddit.

Besides, having a toddler in the show would mean a major change in writing, the Redditor thinks. On top of that, The Good Doctor has always been about Shaun's growth as a person. We've seen him become a doctor, a brother, a friend, a son, a boyfriend, a husband. To let him grow further writers could make him a widower.

"Part of me thinks that the only way for the show to have more seasons, if the writers would go down that route, is if Shaun goes through some potential life changing trauma," another The Good Doctor fan on Reddit wrote.

While these conclusions sound very convincing, even their authors hope Lea's pregnancy will not end with anyone's death. In any case, fans have a whole month to prepare themselves for whatever's coming. The show will continue on January 23.
