The CW Had A Chance To Make A Perfect Supernatural Spinoff But Lost It To Legacies
It would've been so cool, but the opportunity was missed.
There would be nothing cooler than seeing a fully female team of hunters, just like Dean and Sam Winchester, fighting demons and kicking the asses of anyone who gets in their way.
The sad thing is, there was a perfect opportunity to do that with Wayward Sisters, but it never came to fruition.
"It breaks my heart to say this, but CW has chosen to pass on Wayward Sisters. We love these characters, and have spent almost two years trying to make this show a reality on the network... but there are some fights, sometimes, you can't win".
This was the message that explained what happened from the side of writer Andrew Dabb, who had to announce the news on Twitter.
It was not the first attempt to create a Supernatural spin-off, but the second, and in the end it was unsuccessful as well. Just like in 2014, The CW was not ready to move forward with the series in 2018.
While many fans now believe that either Wayward Sisters or Bloodlines would be a better choice for the network than The Winchesters, it's still understandable why the network wasn't ready to greenlight the project.
As then-CW president Mark Pedowitz explained to the public, the network thought it had a better chance with Legacies, which was a spinoff of The Originals and part of The Vampire Diaries universe.
Although the franchises were similar in popularity, the network had to make their choice, and they seemed to be right, as Legacies ran for 4 full seasons.
Many believe that The CW's decision was influenced by the fact that Supernatural was living off its past excellence at the time.
As great as the first seasons of the show were, the last seasons couldn't compete. It would cost the network a lot of money to produce another show, and there was no guarantee that it would live up to its predecessor.
If you're feeling nostalgic and want to re-watch the original Supernatural series, you can stream all the seasons on Netflix or MAX.
