Fans have to brace themselves for the final act.

While news of series cancellations isn't that rare, especially after the industry stumbled in the wake of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023, not many of them go out on their own terms despite their growing popularity. In fact, it's hard to remember a show after HBO's hit Succession that did.

Prime Video 's The Boys will be another title to continue this list, as it was recently reported that the show will end after season 5. And even the cast is finding the news more comforting than upsetting.

Even though viewers will likely be devastated to say goodbye to their favorite show, the stars of the show have a much more positive outlook. Not only will the writers do whatever it takes to keep the viewers happy, but they'll stick to the plan that's been in development for years.

That alone is a lot more creative freedom than many shows with longer seasons can afford, as not many creators can turn down bigger deals and more profit from the networks. And while Eric Kripke has stirred the pot with his recent tweets, saying he can’t be sure about the number of episodes, he has stayed true to the original plan.

Jack Quaid, who portrays the show's protagonist Hughie, thinks it's the best gift Kripke could give the show's fans. He shared a heartfelt post on his Instagram account, reacting to season 5 being The Boys' last.

“I trust Eric Kripke and our amazing writers to deliver an incredible finale. In TV it’s such a rare gift to be able to go out on your own terms, so I’m immensely excited to see what season 5 has in store,” the actor said.

Currently, there is no specific release date for season 5 of the show, so it's hard to predict when the series will air its finale. However, that doesn't mean fans will have to wait long to see Homelander, Butcher, and their respective teams back on screens.

The show is set to premiere its fourth season on June 16, and after that, the details of next season's production may become clearer. Until then, you can refresh your memories of the previous seasons or get straight into the new one on Amazon Prime Video.
