The Boys' "Frenchie" Actor Audition Almost Got Him Arrested
Tomer Capone's stint on The Boys started with real guns pointed at him during his audition.
The Boys has become a real hit and one of Amazon's most successful projects.
Just like its canon, the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the show has changed the idea of superheroes being good and responsible guys who only use their powers to fight evil.
The series shows Supes – individuals with superpowers in The Boys universe – as deeply flawed people corrupted by their powers who act as antagonists. The protagonists of the show are a group of vigilantes who have no superpowers but have taken it upon themselves to stop Supes. Millions of fans adore The Boys for refusing to show the world in black-and-white, for pushing the limits of imagination, and largely thanks to its casting choices that seem flawless.
Raunchiest The Boys Episode Was Erin Moriarty's Favorite
One of the most beloved characters in the show is Frenchie played by Tomer Capone. The Israeli actor managed to build a complex, loveable, and attractive character that garnered an enormous fanbase during the show's three-season run. But the role did not come easily to the actor. Already, the audition for it almost got Capone arrested.
In the interview with The Wrap Tomer Capone told the story of his audition full of suspense and drama. The actor said that he was in Tel Aviv at the time and had limited time to make the audition video.
The scene he was filming was a fight between Frenchie and Butcher over Translucent. So he took a fake gun and went to his friend's backyard to shoot the scene. Capone said he was very much into character and doing his second or third take when police armed with real guns burst into the backyard. They pointed guns at Capone and demanded he threw his fake one down.
Imagine that. One minute you are getting into character, the next minute you have a very real gun aimed at you. Turned out, one of the friend's neighbors saw the audition from his window and thinking something criminal was taking place called the police.
Fortunately, one of the policemen quickly recognized the actor from one of his roles, and the incident was resolved.
"Luckily, I didn't get my head blown off," Tomer Capone said, and millions of his fans can't help but agree.
