Herogasm (Season 3, Episode 6) has quickly become one of the highest-rated episodes of The Boys currently standing at 9.6 on IMDb with over 29k votes. Moreover, it was probably one of the most anticipated episodes among fans of the comic series.
Everyone reading the comic book could hardly imagine the story implying plenty of perverted sexual practices and nudity to be adapted as a show. But the creators of The Boys once again proved how creative they could be in finding ways to shock their audience and fearlessly adapted Herogasm for Season 3.
The episode revolves around a tricky subject of a superhero orgy. According to the Amazon series, the orgy was founded by Soldier Boy and Liberty aka Stormfront in 1952. At the time of Season 3, it is organized by the TNT Twins, held annually, and visited by many minor Supes who creatively use their powers to get and give physical pleasure. The party ends after Soldier Boy's PTSD is triggered by a Russian song, and the Supe blasts Supes attending the orgy with the nuclear energy bursting out of his chest.
The fans of The Boys were totally sold on sex, death, and anticipation of the episode. However, turns out the episode is beloved not only by fans but also by its stars. Erin Moriarty playing Starlight told SlashFilm that filming the episode has become an "amazing, hilarious, and scarring" experience for her.
The actress enjoyed watching the director of the episode Nelson Cragg turning into a porn director. She said that observing Cragg brilliantly coping with the insanity of the situation made her days on the set.
"I think my favorite part was observing the director of that episode directing the people in the background who are simulating sex," Moriarty said. "Just observing him, and then him yelling, 'Cut,' and shaking his head like, 'What am I doing?'"
The actress explained that she had never in her career seen so much nudity and sex on a set. And let's be honest, probably not every porn star saw this many sex toys and creative ways to have sex. Moriarty confessed that it was hard to behave normally when shooting a scene with a fully nude co-star. This nude madness continued for five days, over 12 hours per day, according to the actress. But her favorite thing about the episode was not sex or nudity.
