This is the worst-case scenario.

While it's always hard to say goodbye to a favorite show, sometimes it's better to do it sooner rather than later. Even though the major networks have a way of dragging out the most profitable and popular shows for years before giving up on them, it's up to the creator and showrunner to put the finishing touches on the script.

Supernatural is perhaps the best example of a show that was dragged out by The CW to the point where it lost half of its appeal, even though it somehow managed to keep the original cast in place. Now that Supernatural's creator is working on Prime Video 's The Boys, fans fear that their favorite show will suffer the same fate.

When Was Supernatural Supposed to End?

According to Eric Kripke's plans, Supernatural was supposed to end after 5 seasons. However, when he left the show, the network kept picking up the series season after season, as it consistently showed great results in viewership.

The journey of the Winchester brothers ended in 2020, with the 15th season, and fans are still hoping and praying to see them come back.

Though Kripke is still very much in charge of The Boys, fans aren't so sure about the purity of his intentions anymore. The producer, who had previously stated that he would end the show after 5 seasons, has now retracted his statement during the Q&A session on X (formerly known as Twitter).

It's not the answer fans were expecting. Even though Supernatural got its extra 10 seasons after Kripke left, and so far there are no signs pointing to him leaving The Boys, that still means there's a chance the show could lose its original premise and go one just to get more viewers.

On the r/TheBoys subreddit, fans were quick to catch the analogy and voice their concerns about the similarities between the two shows. Redditor dvali summed up the concerns perfectly in the following comment:

“Again, that was just like Supernatural. The first five seasons had a complete (and high quality) story to tell with a logical ending. That didn't stop them milking it to death. To be fair Supernatural stayed decent throughout it's run. <...> The Boys is already starting to look a bit tired around the edges. It started so well but I do not have high hopes for its future.”

Hopefully, all the fears will end up being for nothing and The Boys will pick up the quality of the show for season 4 and bring it back to the level of the first season. If not, the superhero mockery may not be enough to keep fans interested enough to even get to season 5. Tune in to Prime Video on June 13 not to miss the premiere of another season.
