Butcher is going to make an impossible choice to stay alive past Season 4.

While it's already known that Season 4 of The Boys won't be the last, it feels like the stakes are extremely high for the characters. With Billy Butcher dying from taking the Temp V and Homelander becoming even more insane than he was, and not even remotely condemned by the public for his cruelty, many believe that the upcoming fourth season will end with an epic battle.

And how that battle goes will depend entirely on the choices Billy Butcher makes leading up to it.

Everything we know about Butcher from the very beginning of Season 1 revolves around the fact that he despises Supes. Knowing all the dirty secrets behind the Vaught Corporation and the Seven, it's hard to argue with him, and the vast majority of fans are on his side in the conflict.

However, Butcher is about to face a far worse conflict within himself if he doesn't want to die before he gets his revenge.

Right now, Compound V seems to be the only thing that can save Butcher from a slow and painful death. But knowing his stubbornness and hatred of all things superheroes, it's safe to assume that he will suffer to the end, delaying ingestion until it becomes unbearable.

This would lead him straight to the Season 4 finale and the epic battle between him and Homelander, which could either be his last or his first in a new incarnation.

Both options seem almost equally likely. Butcher dying because of his own hatred for Supes would be a logical and compelling finale. However, it's quite hard to imagine The Boys going another season without the central character.

That's why Butcher's transformation into the thing he hates most would be a slightly better option.

There is no way to find out which direction the writers choose to go until The Boys Season 4 is released. As the show's creator Eric Kripke announced, the release will be delayed until the WGA strike is resolved. So stay tuned for more news and behind-the-scenes updates!
