The Biggest Plot Hole of Star Wars Rebels Finale Is Perfectly Explainable
Fans have wondered how Thrawn and Ezra survived their hyperspace jump, but the answer has been hiding in plain sight all along.
With the much-anticipated Ahsoka TV now less than a month away, many fans have been refreshing their memories (or watching for the first time) of Star Wars Rebels, as the trailers for the upcoming show have made it clear that it is closely tied to the animated series.
However, some of them have also begun to point out what they believe to be a glaring plot hole in the finale episode of Rebels, which is actually perfectly explainable. Beware of major spoilers for Star Wars Rebels.
In the final episode of season four, Family Reunion – and Farewell, Ezra Bridger stays behind on an enemy ship to make sure Grand Admiral Thrawn doesn't escape the trap.
When the purrgil (a species of "space whales" that can travel through hyperspace) take the ship to an unknown location, the two are dragged along.
It is now known that Thrawn and Ezra survived the trip through hyperspace, but given that the ship's windows were shattered, some fans rightly pointed out that there was no way they could have avoided the vacuum of space.
There have been theories that they simply jumped from one planet to another and that there might be oxygen in hyperspace, that the emergency shutters were activated (which is impossible with tentacles coming through windows), or that it was a simple plot hole.
But the answer was literally right in front of us the whole time.
Considering that shards of broken glass are clearly seen floating around before the jump, it is obvious that Ezra created a Force bubble that preserved the oxygen during their journey to an unknown region of space.
While there has been no official confirmation of this, the Force bubble remains the most logical explanation for their miraculous survival, especially when compared to the bizarre theories mentioned above.
The Ahsoka TV series will consist of eight episodes, with the first two premiering on August 23, 2023.
