Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's characters, Maggie and Negan, have been fighting zombies and surviving the apocalypse in The Walking Dead for quite a few seasons now.
Together and individually, they've faced many challenges and dark moments. As the show's 11th and final season is coming to an end, the actors have revealed some of their memories from the show. And we found out she didn't talk to him for about a year. Why, you might ask? Well, read on and find out.
Where It All Began
You may already be familiar with their story, but just in case you don't remember everything, let's quickly go over the basics first. In the series, Maggie is an intelligent and brave woman, devoted to the well-being of her family, husband, and friends. Negan, on the other hand, is a villain who also happened to kill her husband. And as you can imagine, this created plenty of tension between them on-screen. Not only that but for playing the role of one of the most hated villains on television, Jeffrey got a lot of hate from the fans and even received abuse in the street.
Talking about their return for the seventh season premiere, Cohan revealed in one of her interviews that she had to hate him for a whole season. What's more, it turns out she actually refused to speak to Morgan for about a year throughout the duration of shooting season 7, often only giving him a nod when walking by.
The Real Reason
Now, let's talk about the big reason why Lauren Cohan refused to talk to Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Could it be because she found it hard to separate his on-screen character from his real-life personality like many viewers? Well, not exactly, but we wouldn't blame her if that was the case. After all, his actions on the show were quite terrible.
In reality, there's no big intrigue, and the real reason is this was an acting method she was using at the time. Our guess is she did it to ensure the emotions and the hatred she had to portray in the hit series, would be as real and believable as possible. And we're not going to lie, looking at the episodes, she definitely managed to convince us.
It's no secret all actors have their own methods to deliver something spectacular for us to enjoy. But in this case, is it just an excuse, or was it really for the sake of some kickass scenes? I guess we'll never know!
