That Time Jim Parsons Auditioned For Two Iconic The Office Roles But Didn't Get Either
The best part is, he could fit in both times.
It's always fun to imagine your favorite actors in other great projects, especially when it comes to sitcoms. It takes a special kind of acting and a brilliant sense of humor to bring jokes written on paper to life, and to do it flawlessly in any setting.
The Office, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Parks And Recreation – these are all examples of top-notch sitcoms that have brought audiences together to brighten their evenings.
But can you believe that there was a very real possibility for the top stars of one of these shows to get a part in another?
Well, Jim Parsons, as usual, surpassed all expectations and revealed that he auditioned for not one, but two of The Office's iconic roles. He auditioned for Jim, who was eventually portrayed by John Krasinski, and Dwight, who was eventually portrayed by Rainn Wilson.
Although it is easy to imagine Parsons as either character, the actor himself holds no grudges and believes that everything turned out exactly the way it was supposed to.
He shared his thoughts on the episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“It was a great example to the kind of thing where I don’t get it, and you see it air, and you see who gets it, and you’re like “Oh, I would’ve never- That’s not what I would’ve done with it!” And what they were doing with it was so powerful and strong, and unique in both of those roles, it was like “That’s what should’ve happened.”
Fortunately, Jim Parsons got his own moment to shine when he landed the role of Sheldon Cooper on the next big hit, The Big Bang Theory.
And while the actor is sure there are others who would be great in the role, fans wouldn't trade his performance for anything or anyone else.
If you want to revisit The Office and see both Jim and Dwight portrayed by someone completely different, the show is available to stream on Peacock.
