Teen Wolf Movie Almost Had Dylan O'Brien's Cameo, But Davis Ruined It
Turns out we didn't have to suffer through a Stiles-less movie after all. But we did.
Teen Wolf fans still can't wrap their heads around the many things that disappointed them in the recently released movie, but the absence of Stiles Stilinski remains one of the biggest grievances in the fandom.
However, Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis could have easily blessed the fandom with another appearance by Dylan O'Brien, who ultimately refused to return as Stiles in the movie. It turns out the actor was actually willing to make a cameo, but Davis wasn't as welcoming as you might think.
"There was one moment where he said, "OK, maybe I'll do a cameo." Then another moment where he said, "Maybe I'll do a few days of shooting." But at a certain moment in the process I said, we've either gotta have him in it or not in it. And I think he made the right decision for himself," Davis told TV Insider.
According to Davis, "the worst thing" O'Brien could do would be to appear on screen and "not want to be there." After the ultimatum, the actor chose to leave the character where it was.
Here's What Would Happen in Teen Wolf Movie If O'Brien Returned, According to Davis
Stiles' absence, however, hit the fandom hard. Many people refused to even watch the movie without their favorite characters; others tried, only to find that Davis had also broken up the iconic couple of Stiles and Lydia (in a way that fans feel is completely out of character).
Fans believe that Davis made all of the criticized creative decisions because he decided to be "petty" about O'Brien not returning for the movie. According to the fandom, O'Brien, as well as Arden Cho ( who portrayed Kira Yukimura in the series), were the most important people to the story, and the movie could never have worked without them.
Teen Wolf: The Movie is currently available for streaming on Paramount Plus.
