TBBT’s Sheldon and Amy Are the Only Couple That Deserved a Happy Ending
Raj and Cinnamon are a close second, though.
Summary:
- Throughout the 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory, viewers followed not only the friendships between the characters, but also their love lives.
- In the finale, three couples ended up happily married: Howard and Bernadette, Leonard and Penny, and Sheldon and Amy.
- However, only the latter couple proved to be right for each other throughout the show.
While The Big Bang Theory was never a show about love and romance, the writers were right to introduce not one, but several romantic arcs to keep things interesting. All three main couples provided a great contrast not only to the chronically single Raj, but also to each other, offering very different dynamics.
However, only one of them realistically had what it takes to survive in real life, and only those two should have ended up together.
What Is the Best The Big Bang Theory Couple?
Although Leonard and Penny were created as an OG couple, the ‘will they/won't they’ dynamic that viewers can't take their eyes off, their relationship was always extremely toxic. Penny was no saint, constantly reassuring Leonard that he wasn't enough to be with her, but the way he compensated for his insecurities was even worse.
From belittling Penny by commenting on her intellectual abilities to snooping through her diary and cheating both with and on her, Leonard was far from a dream boyfriend. Their marriage was based on a great deal of manipulation and is unlikely to survive.
They shouldn't have gotten married in the first place, but since they did, their marriage should have ended in divorce.
Unfortunately, the same scenario was written in the stars for Howard and Bernadette. Their love story was much sweeter, but only one character actually grew from being with another, and that's Howard. In order to cope with life with a man-child, Bernadette had to toughen up, which basically led to her becoming a bully.
Of course, they could stay together, as happened at the end of The Big Bang Theory, but it wasn't a healthy relationship, and it's destined to get worse. If Howard gets on Bernadette's nerves and she lashes out, they'll probably end up hating each other completely.
The only couple for which there is at least a glimmer of hope is Sheldon and Amy. Of course, Sheldon is insufferable, but he was honest and very open from the beginning, and Amy knew exactly what she was dealing with.
Thanks to her patience, she was able to get Sheldon to open up to her, and that same patience is what can get them through all the trials and tribulations of married life, no matter what obstacle comes their way. From what we've heard from the grown-up Sheldon narrating the Young Sheldon prequel, they're doing just fine.
If you miss The Big Bang Theory and want to catch up, be sure to stream it on Max. Or keep up with Young Sheldon every Thursday on CBS so you don't miss any little glimpses into Sheldon and Amy's lives that might be coming your way.
