As if they didn’t suffer enough.

Getting together in the public eye must be extremely difficult, especially while working on the same project. It's understandable that actors get caught up in their emotions and end up in a relationship, but it's also very easy to see how even the strongest couples can break up under the constant pressure of the media and the public.

Breakups are hard enough, but when you can't really take a day off and have to come back to the same environment, it must be even harder. Especially when you have to be the perfect couple with your ex, no matter how you feel.

That's exactly what happened to Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki after their romance ended. The former couple faced the reality of continuing to portray their characters and their love story, even in the moments when it felt too awkward.

For example, when filming the steamy scenes where Penny and Leonard share a bed. There were so many episodes like that that Kaley Cuoco even thought the show's showrunner Chuck Lorre added them on purpose to make them both feel uncomfortable.

She shared her thoughts on this in an interview with Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert:

“When we broke up, obviously, it was a little sensitive for a minute, but I remember those weeks that Chuck had written these episodes where all of a sudden our characters were like sleeping together every other second. <...> Johnny and I talk about it, and I think [Chuck] did that on purpose just to f##k with us,” the actress said.

Whether that is true or not, the good thing is that both actors were able to remain professional and their real-life relationship did not affect the fan-favorite couple on screen.

Also, according to Cuoco, the two were able to end things on good terms, so there is no bad blood between the two former co-stars.

If you want to relive Penny and Leonard's best moments, you can stream all 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory on Netflix or MAX.
