One of them may make you feel bad for the beloved character once again.

The Big Bang Theory ’s longtime fans are well aware of the fact that Sheldon Cooper and his friends’ passion for superhero comic books went much beyond the local comic book store’s walls.

Not only did the characters have a whole collection of cartoon-ish stories that they reread a thousand times each, but they also had an invariable tradition of turning themselves into famous superheroes and wearing their costumes for Halloween every year.

Known for his unconditional love for DC’s Flash, Sheldon never had any trouble with choosing a costume, which sometimes did annoy his friends who wanted some kind of diversity at least in this matter.

Still, Sheldon’s specific love for Flash and DC characters as a whole wasn’t a mere accident and was introduced for 2 major reasons, one of which is yet another confirmation of Sheldon’s biggest life tragedy.

Is Sheldon a Marvel Hater?

Some eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that throughout the show’s whole run Stuart Bloom’s comic book store doesn’t really feature comic books about Marvel superheroes.

Though The Big Bang Theory once brought Marvel’s biggest figure Stan Lee to the screen, the latter’s legacy was pretty much ignored in all aspects, considering that even Sheldon and his gang were much more into DC and its characters.

Such an observation might be somewhat confusing for the show’s lovers, yet it has a very simple explanation — The Big Bang Theory is owned by Warner Bros. which also has DC Comics as a part of its immense conglomerate.

Since DC has been long considered Marvel’s fiercest rival, it didn’t really make sense for The Big Bang Theory to give some kind of promotion for the company’s works and thus opted for boosting Warner Bros.’s subsidiary.

While Sheldon’s comic book preferences were mostly explained by the first, pretty much commercial, reason, another one seems to be much more fitting, yet it’s still much more disheartening.

Sheldon’s Love For Flash Is Actually Heartbreaking

Talking about the character’s inexplicable love for Flash, one of the series' writers Steve Molaro revealed that it had a lot to do with Sheldon’s difficult past. According to Molaro, during his younger years, Sheldon was often bullied, so he felt a need to escape from that toxic environment as fast as possible.

Since Flash is the one to move at an incredible speed and is generally good at running away, Sheldon picked him as his forever favorite back when he was a kid and his preferences eventually never changed since then.
