Outside the gang, he was the most loved.

When a show has an ensemble cast, it’s not that easy of a task to find the one character you will commit to. There are storylines in which you love some of them a little more, and then everything changes, and the sweetheart becomes the most annoying person, or on the contrary, the ones who are brought to the picture to make you frustrated turn into the characters you learn to love.

In The Big Bang Theory there are many annoying characters (almost everyone, to be frank). But that doesn’t stop us from loving them. The main gang, which includes Leonard, Sheldon, Raj, Howard, and Penny (in first edition, before some of them find their significant others), is always at the center of attention, and from episode to episode the level of annoyance with them changes.

The same goes about all the secondary characters. For example, one of the show’s recurring characters, Stuart, is an A-okay man when we first meet him, but is rather out of sync with the gang. Later, when he becomes the loser of the show, this out-of-sync thing becomes a gag and actually works.

One of the most unexpected sweethearts of the show though turned out to be the stupidest of them all – Penny’s once-boyfriend-then-friend Zack. Every time he appeared on screen he definitely stole the show with his nonsense. The jokes about his intellect never fail to make the audience laugh and the way Brian Thomas Smith played the role was simply iconic.

After he joined the cast and became a recurring character of sorts, fans of the show wanted to see him on screen even more, and even wished for him to become a regular on the show.

“Some regular adventures with Sheldon and Zack could have been hilarious, Sheldon trying to keep it together whilst Zack does the stupidest things, and then Zack being the one that figures out a solution to their problems, could have been a cool dynamic,” Redditor plant876 said.

That would have been really great to see, but unfortunately we got what we got. Still, Zack fans can't say they have nothing, because there are plenty of episodes where his shenanigans are the central storyline.

If you need to catch up on the funniest things he did and said, The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Max.
