Tales of The Walking Dead Musical Episode Has Fans All Saying One Thing
Guess we now know that even the apocalypse can't stop the power of song.
Tales of the Walking Dead is another spin-off to the famous AMC series The Walking Dead, this time in an anthology format – each episode tells its own separate story and has its own tone, so that the creators can experiment with telling all sorts of wildly different tales. The reception has been pretty mixed.
At the moment of this article's writing, it is unclear whether Tales of the Walking Dead is going to be canceled, or renewed for Season 2.
And, well, the reception of Season 1 might be not the only reason why AMC is hesitating.

Maybe the showrunners' experimentation got a bit too bold, or maybe they are running out of more conventional ideas, but as it seems, Tales of the Walking Dead has a musical episode written for it. Channing Powell, the series producer, even told EW that he hoped to get that episode into the first season, but the production schedule left no room for it.
"Should we get a season 2 or 3, I'm going to push for that one if I can," he added. "It lives in my heart and in my mind."
When those statements caught attention of the fans, the dominant reaction was a resounding “what?!?" As it appears, people were already disappointed by the actual content of Tales of the Walking Dead. Upon hearing the word “anthology" they expected one-shot survival stories, following the general rules and genre expectations of TWD world. Not weird, surreal, or wacky stuff. And most certainly they did not expect – or wanted to see – a musical in their zombie apocalypse show.
As one among the more level-headed and less inclined to mockery among Redditors said:
"A musical episode could be done correctly by showcasing musicians in the world after the apocalypse. However I don't think they have the ability to make it work well."
Even without a prospect of seeing a musical if Season 2 is ever produced, the fan opinion on Tales was overwhelmingly negative. The musical idea drew so much flak because it is emblematic of the spin-off's perceived flaws: focus on style over substance, focus on elements other than zombies, introducing more stuff as opposed to telling side stories complementing TWD's main plot, drastic tonal discrepancies even within Tales, and, in short, poor execution of a promising concept.
