Taika Waititi Reduced Gorr to a Joke in 'Thor: Love and Thunder'
Just like pretty much everything else in the movie, if you ask fans.
When fans first learned that Taika Waititi landed Christian Bale for the role of Gorr the God Butcher in 'Thor: Love and Thunder ', they could not be excited more. Bale seemed to be a perfect choice to portray one of the most intimidating villains in the Marvel comics.
However, the final result has disappointed a lot of fans – mainly due to Waititi refusing to scale down the level of comedic relief and reducing Gorr to a joke.

Bale does not really get a chance to scare viewers as Gorr the God Butcher, fans have argued. Due to the overall humorous tone of the movie, one simply cannot perceive things seriously – especially when most of the villainous actions take place off-screen.
Yes, you read that right – Gorr the God Butcher does not really get to show off his expert skills on said butchering on screen. The lack of screen time for Christian Bale immediately prompted many fans to lament that Marvel "wasted" the opportunity.
"Taika makes everything a stand up routine and that's why he's a weak film maker in productions that require seriousness. So it's not surprising that he didn't know how to utilize such a good actor." – @Charl3sZ.
Besides, the movie lacks any backstory for Gorr, according to some of the reviews. To many people, it was like "Thanos showing up for the first time in the MCU with all the Infinity Stones".
Still, it looks like Bale did his best to try and carry the movie, with fans still praising his performance despite too much humor and "dumb fun", as they put it.
The official premiere of 'Thor: Love and Thunder' in theaters is slated for July 8. Until then, we just want to remind you that sometimes you don't want to trust early reviews too much, and it's always better to grab a ticket and see the movie for yourself.
