Taika Waititi Comes Clean About True Origins Of His MCU Contract
You weren’t the only one hating on Thor before.
Summary:
- Taika Waititi has worked on two movies of the Thor franchise, Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder.
- While the second movie was met with a wave of criticism, the first one is still considered one of the best in the series by the fandom.
- Taika Waititi was never interested in working with the MCU if it wasn't for the money, and he has no plans to return for Thor 5.
When it comes to the creative industries, people still struggle to accept the fact that not all work is done out of inspiration, with the pure intention of adding something meaningful to the world.
When we ask lawyers about their practice, we do not expect them to be completely charitable. When we talk to cashiers, we don't expect them to work for a higher purpose where they work.
It's the creative jobs that are usually thought of as special. In reality, however, creatives often face the same kinds of problems that we all face. And they, too, find themselves working for money, not for a powerful idea.
Will Taika Waititi Be Back For Thor 5?
While some stars like Rachel Zegler are hated for saying they're willing to take a job just for the paycheck, others like Jacob Elordi are praised for saying the exact same thing. But it's not just actors who are flying under the radar these days.
The unlikely directors for unlikely franchises, like Taika Waititi for the MCU's Thor, are also being questioned. But he didn't even try to beat around the bush. When asked about the history of his MCU deal on the SmartLess podcast, the director was brutally honest:
“You know what? I had no interest in doing one of those films. It wasn’t on my plan for my career as an auteur. But I was poor and I’d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed these children,'” he shared.
Besides, Thor was never even a favorite of his. Just like the rest of the fans, Waititi wasn't that interested in his story before he started working on it. What's great is that even his own prejudice and initial lack of inspiration didn't stop him from creating something beautiful with Thor: Ragnarok and earning a hefty $854 million at the box office.
Unfortunately, the director will not be back for the 5th movie of the long Thor franchise. However, you can always re-watch Thor: Ragnarok by streaming it on Disney Plus.
