What, do we need to revive #SherlockLives hashtag already?

If you have been faithfully waiting for BBC's Sherlock to return one day no matter what — well, looks like showrunner Steven Moffat is out there to tease you with some hope.

In a new interview with Deadline (via), Moffat said he is ready to start writing a new Sherlock season as soon as tomorrow. However, there is one condition, which is, if we're being honest, unlikely to be fulfilled in the near future: the return of main stars, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

"They're on to bigger and better things but, Martin and Benedict, 'please come back?'," Moffat quipped.

What is an innocent joke for the Sherlock showrunner has already spurred buzz in the fandom, with people already getting hyped up about the plausible return of the show. Some fans already joke about possible plotlines.

"Will Sherlock now have a super secret brother that he forgot about and an old girlfriend he remembers as a cat?" Twitter user TheMammalizer said.

Others are already dreaming that Sherlock will join the iconic trio of the old-school shows coming back, alongside Supernatural ( well, its spinoff, if we're being precise) and Doctor Who.

"David Tennant's back, Supernatural has a spin-off running right now and now Sherlock would return if Benedict and Martin would come back!!!! Superwholock wins," excited Twitter user _Alexis__Alexis said.

Many fans, however, are already up in arms against the idea of the game being back on — not least due to the fact that the final season was not unilaterally enjoyed by everyone in the fandom.

"At this point he would've been better if he'd revealed there was a secret living twin all along. Just… be done with it," Twitter user geobpy suggested. "That wouldn't even be near the top 10 most ridiculous things that happened in the show."

Despite Benedict Cumberbatch toying with the idea of returning to crime-solving in his 2021 interview with Esquire, a large part of the fandom believes that his Sherlock's story is better off being over for good.

But who knows just how the winds might change?
