Supernatural S16 Had a 5-Year Deadline, and It’s Running Out Soon
It’s 2025, or never.
Summary:
- Supernatural ran for 15 seasons on The CW from 2005 to 2020 and remains one of the network's most popular shows.
- The journey of the Winchester brothers has ended, but fans still believe there's more to be told.
- According to Jared Padalecki, he and Jensen Ackles wanted to revisit the brothers 5 years after the series finale.
If there's one fandom that knows a thing or two about being patient, it's the Supernatural fandom. First, a good half of the fandom was forced to wait until the very finale to see the couple they had been shipping for years become somewhat canon, and then everyone started waiting for the show to be revived under the constant attack of teasing from the cast.
But now it's safe to say that Supernatural season 16, or at least a revival of The CW's most popular show in some form, is closer than ever. According to Jared Padalecki, there has always been a plan to revisit the show after its finale.
Will There Be Supernatural Season 16?
Supernatural is not new to playing with the emotions of the fandom, but this time it feels more real than ever. The show has every chance of coming back in one form or another, and at least two of the three iconic characters, Sam and Dean Winchesters, will make an appearance. All this has been confirmed by Jared Padalecki.
Speaking to CBR about the new season of his ongoing neo-western The Walker, the actor couldn't stay away from the topic of the Supernatural revival that has been eating up the fandom for years. As it turns out, there is a good chance that we will get some exciting news as early as next year.
“In hindsight, Jensen and I have always said 'always,' if we ever have the option. I think in the last two or three seasons of Supernatural, when we realized somebody might want more, we said '2025. In 2020, we're ending this. Let's get together in five years and see what Sam and Dean are up to,” Padalecki said.
With so many fans following the show from the very first season and staying in the fandom for almost two decades now, waiting another year shouldn't be too much of an issue. According to the actor, both he and his on-screen brother are rooting for the show to have a rich and meaningful storyline, so if the comeback ever happens, it will be worth the wait.
Of course, Supernatural will have to find a way to bring Jensen Ackles' Dean back from the dead, and the majority of fans would want the show to do the same for Misha Collins ' Castiel. This may take away some of the depth of Supernatural's original 2020 finale.
However, given that fans weren't exactly sold on it in the first place, it's a sacrifice the writers would be willing to make if it meant another fun journey for the Winchester brothers.
If you're feeling nostalgic and think you're up for another rewatch marathon, go ahead and stream all 15 seasons of Supernatural on Netflix. Keep an eye out for more news and updates to be the first to know when a Supernatural revival hits your screens.
