Supernatural's Jensen Ackles and Chicago Fire's Derek Haas Join Forces
After The Boys, Ackles books a lead role in Prime Video’s upcoming thriller series.
While primarily known for portraying Dean Winchester in Supernatural, Jensen Ackles made a strong comeback to the TV scene with The Boys where he played Soldier Boy. Thanks to that, Ackles has been experiencing a massive resurgence in popularity lately, and it seems like Supernatural and The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke wasn’t the only one who decided to capitalize on that.
Ackles and Haas Working on a Thriller Series
While CBS’ Tracker recently grabbed a piece of Jensen Ackles for itself, Prime Video had an even bigger and more enticing offer for the Supernatural alum. According to Variety, Ackles will play the lead role in the upcoming thriller series Countdown, which will see the actor work under Chicago Fire ’s Derek Haas who will be running the show.
Currently, Haas has a 13-episode order from Prime Video. The TV show will be renewed based on its performance but it feels like the streamer has confidence in Ackles, hiring him for the second time in a row.
“I had an incredible experience working with the Prime Video team on The Boys and am delighted to be able to continue that relationship on Countdown,” the actor shared.
What Do We Know About Countdown?
In Countdown, Jensen Ackles will play an LAPD officer who becomes part of a large conspiracy once his investigation into a broad daylight murder leads him to a terrifying conclusion. To save the city, he’ll need to join forces with a secret force of undercover agents working to infiltrate and sabotage a dangerous group that threatens civilians en masse.
We’re feeling pretty safe about Countdown Season 1, seeing that Jensen Ackles is a professional to the bone — and the showrunner Derek Haas is perhaps even more so. You most likely know Haas from his work on Dick Wolf’s One Chicago franchise: the showrunner has left his mark in all three shows — Fire, Med, and PD. Apart from that, Haas also worked on some big movies, including Vin Diesel ’s 2 Fast 2 Furious.
Countdown is currently in pre-production and no release date has been revealed yet.
