Supernatural Fans Were Robbed of a Touching Castiel & Crowley Deleted Scene in Season 9
Who doesn't love a good demon vs. angel dynamic? Supernatural's Castiel and Crowley ended up being part of a main cast for a reason, but even they were sometimes robbed of screen time.
Now that Supernatural is over and The Winchesters is on hiatus, fans can't help but look back. This time around, as they revisited Season 9, a deleted scene resurfaced; and once again, people remembered a gem that Supernatural robbed them of.
In the scene that never made it to the final cut, Crowley and Castiel are sitting in front of a TV watching a documentary about the plague.
Castiel is not enjoying it very much — unlike Crowley, who calls the plague "good times," causing the angel to snap his fingers and turn off the TV. Their conversation then evolves into a frank discussion of how it feels for both of them to be human.
A perfect embodiment of Crowley's brief glimpse of humanity, the scene could have been an amazing addition to season 9, according to fans. Redditor Own-Aerie-8743 lamented the cut scene as a missed opportunity to explain why Crowley was so "soft" in season 9.
"They may have been just slice of life moments, but they go a long way in explaining why Crowley was more forgiving after Dean's betrayal on the deal involving killing Cain. Because prior to that they gave Crowley a sense of normality in the group," the Redditor said.
Both Castiel and Crowley had to experience being human in the most unpleasant ways. While Cas lost his angel grace and powers, Crowley was "cured" into being human in season 8, delivering an unexpected emotional monologue in front of Sam about how he wants to be loved.
Ackles Needed to Take a Walk After This Tear-Jerking Supernatural Scene
It was truly a new side of the King of Hell whom fans knew and loved for his wit, sarcasm, and ability to maneuver between sides. But after season 8, Crowley had to become a vulnerable mortal and deal with his feelings (you're a real fan if you read that last word in his voice).
Getting a spinoff that would focus on the Castiel and Crowley dynamic was one of the fandom's biggest dreams. However, it has never happened...yet. What we do have is a prequel about John and Mary Winchester called The Winchesters, which will return to The CW on January 23rd.
