Supernatural Fan-Favorite Returns in The Winchesters
It's time for everyone's beloved Trickster to mess with us all over again.
Yes, it's official and The CW is not trying to trick you: Richard Speight Jr. is going to return to the world of Supernatural in The Winchesters prequel!
What seemed to many as a fan dream and not something that could actually happen is now the show's reality. Speight Jr. is going to appear in episode 8 of The Winchesters, and he is set to reprise Loki — the Scandinavian demigod and the original Trickster.
"I think it was in New Orleans actually when we were shooting Episode 2, so I wasn't in the writer's room, obviously," Robbie Thompson, The Winchesters showrunner, says of Speight Jr's comeback inspiration in an interview with TV Insider.. "But I was reading their notes and was like, 'Hey, wait a minute….and then I just got really, really excited because it felt like [they'd come up with] an opportunity for us to welcome a friend that we've seen before, but maybe not in a way that folks are, are expected."
It looks like Speight Jr is going to be portraying the original Loki, not archangel Gabriel pretending to be one. However, with the Supernatural universe, you're just never 100% sure about things.
The Winchesters is Officially Scarier Than Supernatural, So Brace Yourself
However, even though fans are extremely excited to welcome Speight Jr. back, they expressed hope that further surprises will be, you know, left as surprises. On the other hand, many people are starting to suspect that if Speight Jr. comeback was okay to share, maybe The Winchesters has someone even more exciting to return at some point?
Speight is also set to direct several episodes, but his cameo was a secret up until now. After being revealed on Tuesday (which is ironic, right, Supernatural fans?), it's no longer a mystery — but we still remember Jensen Ackles ' words about "many familiar faces" likely to appear in the prequel very well. Who's next — if there is anyone?
The Winchesters airs on The CW, with new episodes arriving on Tuesdays.
