Succession: 'Wild Card' Character That Will Shake Things Up in Season 4
Someone definitely has a lot up his sleeve.
As Succession fans await the fourth season, there is one character who most frequently appears in fan theories, since people suspect he is not quite the one we all thought him to be.
Tom Wambsgans is arguably the most ambiguous character in the show so far, with season 3 ending making fans question whether he was always that devious, and haven't viewers been underestimating him this whole time.
"Is the Tom we have seen and know the real Tom, with his turn in the finale was just a slow build through this season until finally deciding to do it. Or, has he always been a devious man, and an ambitious businessman who will do anything and fuck or play anyone to get what he wants?" Redditor MonkSalad1 wondered.
Season 4 might become a perfect moment for Tom, who is perfectly capable of pretending to be submissive when he needs it, to finally hunt down those who belittled him. After all, we already know that he is not afraid of betraying those who wronged or crossed him.
Not everyone in the fandom is ready to believe he was this devious from the start, however.
"I think it's both Tom is the man we have seen and known, but as a business man he has always has it in him to be ambitious, cold and calculating. If you think back to previous seasons, he has shown glimpses of devious thought patterns to Greg (but often without using them against Greg)," Redditor HelsBels2102 said.
The best thing about Tom, according to fans, is how multilayered he is as a character, essentially providing fans with a possibility to see him the way they want. Another Redditor, kakdin147, pointed out that Succession has been "very careful in peeling back the layer upon layer of the sliminess that is Tom Wambsgans". Clearly, season 4 might have a lot of surprises when it comes to such a complex character.
Succession season 4 is set to premiere on HBO Max in spring 2023.
