One case where 'better late than never' doesn't work.

To say that fans were upset to learn that Succession season 4 would be the last would be an understatement.

The decision to end the series on a high note came rather suddenly for both the cast and the audience. However, not everyone sees it as unfortunate as it may seem at first glance.

TV history is full of cases when the series died long and painfully, forcing its viewers to believe in an unrealistic ending. Instead of ending the story with a beautiful and meaningful moment, plots often drag on.

Characters, whose actors are not ready to spend many years on a project, are taken out of the show in the most foolish ways.

No fan would want this fate for their favorite show, so by comparison, the ending of Succession may be the best decision the producers ever made.

One of the stars of the show, Brian Cox, who portrayed Logan Roy throughout all 4 seasons, seems to agree.

While other cast members found the news that Succession was ending heartbreaking, he was the one who was cheering for it, and for good reason:

"You think about Game of Thrones when they didn't know what they were doing at the end, and they had an ending which was not really satisfactory. And the audience was furious," The actor noted in his interview with The New York Times.

While saying goodbye will always be painful for fans, no matter how many seasons they spent with the characters, the Succession team managed to do everything possible to avoid a potential backlash.

One could be skeptical about the Game of Thrones comparison, saying that the problem was not the number of seasons, but the poor writing choices and lack of original material.

But the point still stands: it's better to end the show on a high note than to drag it out for God knows how long without a plan.

Season 4 of Succession is in theaters now and airs Sundays on HBO. Tune in to catch the finale and find out who will become Logan Roy's successor.
