Succession and 3 Other Projects That Left Us Without Answers to Key Questions
Did Logan really want to make Kendall his successor? What was in Professor's note to Rafael?
Sometimes the creators of movies and TV shows are cruel – they ask intriguing questions and then leave us without any answers.
We have chosen four of the most burning questions for which there are no solutions, only fan speculation.
1. Succession, 2018-2023
In the final season of the already cult Succession, Logan Roy's children are given access to a document that contains not only printed words, but also notes written by Logan.
According to the paper, Logan was about to name Kendall as his successor, but one thing made everyone doubt the truth of this statement – it was unclear whether the name was underlined or crossed out.
The pencil line became an important detail that influenced the further development of events, but we were not destined to find out what Logan meant.
After the series ended, creator Jesse Armstrong lifted the veil of mystery by saying that if someone wanted to cross out a word, they wouldn't start drawing a line at the bottom of that word.
2. Picnic at Hanging Rock, 1975
Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging Rock, based on Joan Lindsay's novel of the same name, was released in 1975, but the mystery surrounding the disappearance of three girls and a teacher is still left hanging.
The lack of a solution is the main advantage of the movie, which gave the project cult status, but this does not stop fans from coming up with their own theories.
In 1980, the book The Murders at Hanging Rock was published, in which author Yvonne Rousseau listed nine possible explanations for the disappearance, ranging from alien abduction to a confrontation with a serial killer.
Later, another version appeared: Weir himself suggested that the girls might have fallen into a deep crevasse from which it was impossible to get out on their own.
3. Lost in Translation, 2003
In the final scene, Bob hugs Charlotte and says a phrase that we cannot hear. According to the official version, no one knows exactly what Bob says except Bill Murray, who played Bob, Scarlett Johansson, and director Sofia Coppola. It is also known that the whisper was improvised.
Some users claim that they were able to make out Bob's words using special programs for working with sound.
In their opinion, Bob says: "I have to be leaving, but I won’t let that come between us. Okay?"
There is also a second version: "When John is waiting on the next business trip, go up to that man, and tell him the truth. Okay?" And yet, we'll never be 100% sure of the exact wording – none of the cast or crew ever revealed the secret.
4. Money Heist, 2017-2021
The exciting conclusion of season five brought the characters and viewers to an unexpected confrontation – Berlin's son Rafael took the gold stolen by a team of robbers from the Bank of Spain and moved it to a new location, seriously endangering everyone inside the bank.
Professor managed to save the situation by giving Rafael a note. What it said remains unknown, but for some reason Berlin’s son decided to back down. Maybe the Professor wrote something about the honor of a thief and the mutual aid of the family, but that's just a guess.
