Stranger Things Actor Got Cut Out Of a Scene for Laughing Too Much
Charlie Heaton couldn't keep a straight face in one scene.
Stranger Things has become one of the most acclaimed and beloved shows of recent years and a Netflix record-breaker thanks to its thrilling plot, compelling characters, and nostalgic 1980s vibe.
In addition to veteran actors like Winona Ryder and David Harbour, who bring a unique flavor to the storytelling, the show features an incredible cast of young actors like Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Natalia Dyer, and Charlie Heaton. Their performances are so believable and genuine that viewers often find it difficult to separate the characters from the actors playing them.
Meanwhile, real-life stars can be very different from the beloved Hawkings kids and teens. The best example of this is Charlie Heaton, who is known worldwide for his role as Jonathan Byers. On the show, Jonathan is an introverted, bookish teenager with a mysterious past and an enigmatic personality. He's a loner who rarely speaks his mind and almost never smiles.
In real life, Charlie Heaton emerges as the exact opposite. He has a large social media following and is very in touch with his fans. He is confident, outgoing, and comfortable in his own skin. On top of that, he has a great sense of humor. In fact, it was his sense of humor that got him into trouble at one point. The actor was cut out of a scene in Season 2 because he just couldn't stop laughing.
Finn Wolfhard recently shared this hilarious story while answering fan questions for GQ. It happened while filming a scene at the Byers' house where Dustin explains to the gang that Mind Flayers want to conquer all other species and believe that they are the master race.
"Oh, like the Germans," Steve exclaims to everyone's facepalm.
"The Nazis?" Dustin corrects Steve and the scene continues.
While it is a hilarious joke that shows how simple Steve can be, this scene became extremely difficult to shoot. Because Charlie Heaton just couldn't keep it together. Every time Joe Keery, who plays Steve, would say his "the Germans" line with a straight face, Heaton would burst into giggles and ruin the otherwise perfect scene.
Wolfhard recalled how angry David Harbour, the Duffer Brothers and everyone on set became with Heaton after several unsuccessful takes. Eventually, the creators had to take drastic measures and remove Heaton from the scene.
