The good thing about sci-fi is that it allows the filmmakers to be as creative as they want: the only laws that can potentially stop them are the laws of physics, and even these can be shoved away, provided there's a sufficient explanation for that.
And that's the bad thing about sci-fi: the filmmakers have to explain a lot of stuff. If they won't, they'd have to artfully omit some things, and leave clues here and there for the viewers to make their own conclusions, and if it doesn't work well, then the story becomes a bit jumbled.
But if it's exciting enough, you won't notice these things: you'll be immersed in the story. They Cloned Tyrone is one of the movies like that: it makes you feel puzzled all the time but you like it.
