Steven Spielberg Updates His Favorite Movie List With a $580 Million Hit
Denis Villeneuve can’t leave anyone indifferent — even the greatest directors of modern times.
Steven Spielberg is not only a meticulous director, but also a meticulous viewer — and he never misses a chance to add something new to his personal collection of favorite films.
As Spielberg previously already shared his preferences in several interviews, he’s provided the public with some big update about the list — and it has something to do with the current box office.
Thus, the director has revealed that Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 2 has officially joined Spielberg’s most favorite films, calling it “one of the most brilliant science-fiction films” he’s ever seen. The movie has recently been showing impressive results, currently reaching $580 million in the box office.
Spielberg also shared his thoughts about the scene that captivated his attention the most — the one where the main character Paul, who is portrayed by Timothée Chalamet, is riding a sandworm for the first time.
The proclaimed director yet once again praised Villeneuve’s viewpoint at Frank Herbert’s book adaptation saying that such a desert-loving story had paradoxically a lot to show about the water thus many of the film’s scenes resemble more the sea or the ocean rather than an arid desert.
Spielberg concluded his delightful review by addressing Villeneuve himself and saying that he “made the desert look like a liquid”.
What Other Movies Does Spielberg Consider Masterpieces?
Dune: Part Two enjoys an impressive company on the list of Spielberg’s favorites. Among other notable titles are Vincente Minnelli’s Meet Me in St. Louis, Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, Disney ’s Fantasia, and Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.
Even some of the superhero flicks managed to earn their place on the list, like James Gunn ’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Christopher Nolan ’s Dark Knight trilogy, and Tim Burton’s Batman films.
