Gi Hun aka Player 456 portrayed by South Korean star Lee Jung-jae is a complicated character. He has a gambling addiction and debt problems and looks like a bad father, son, and husband. At the same time, he is a kind and sweet man who is trying to preserve humanity until the last minute, which makes viewers root for him.
During Squid Game, the character made many questionable moral decisions that ultimately led to him winning the game. This bittersweet victory seemingly broke Gi Hun.
But the realization that Squid Games go on, and elite members of society continue to enjoy the bloody survival game held among participants desperate for money, made him transform and find the inner strength to fight and destroy the game.
At least, that's what the finale of Season 1 hints at.
Details about Season 2 of Squid Game are being kept under wraps. So viewers don't know how the revenge mission of Gi Hun will play out. But the actor behind the character hinted that Gi Hun's arc will change in the next chapter.
Jung-jae told GQ that he was excited to "perform the darker side of [Gi Hun]," which means the transformation of Squid Game leading character did not only affect his hair but also his very nature.
Having won the game, Gi Hun has become a very wealthy man. So "the darker side" Jung-jae mentioned could refer to the lead being spoiled by money. But it is also possible that to fight evil, the protagonist will have to become evil himself. Anyway, there's a lot to look forward to from Season 2 of Squid Game which could reportedly be released by the end of 2023 or 2024.
