Sonic the Hedgehog’s Shadow Got a Perfect Voicing Actor, But It’s a Double Fail For the Main Character
The franchise has added one more big star to its cast.
Summary:
- Sonic the Hedgehog 3 starring Jim Carrey in the villain’s role is coming to the cinemas this December, but there’s still casting news coming in — and the film seems to have settled on a very famous actor for quite an exciting role.
- The actor will be voicing Sonic’s biggest rival whose appearance in the movie was confirmed during CinemaCon last week.
- The exciting casting news also comes as a funny coincidence given a specific plot detail that unveils Sonic’s fanaticism in the first movie of the franchise.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to hit the cinemas this December, but it’s still not too late for the upcoming film to expand its star-packed cast even more.
As the latest news is confirming, the movie is getting an exciting collaboration with an A-list actor — and though he’s the main character’s idol, it won’t impede him to voice Sonic’s biggest rival.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Keanu Reeves is the latest addition to the third installment of the game-based movie franchise. John Wick ’s actor will get to give his voice to Shadow the Hedgehog, one of the universe’s most beloved antiheroes.
The news comes as a pretty much needed detail as less than a week ago Paramount presented footage from the upcoming movie at CinemaCon — and thus confirmed that the Dr. Robotnik, portrayed by Jim Carrey, is developing Shadow the Hedgehog that will be confronting Sonic.
Aside from Keanu Reeves, the cast of voicing actors also includes Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessey and Idris Elba, while in live action the moviegoers will get to see Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Lee Majdoub, Tom Butler and many others.
The recent update may come as something extremely exciting for both Sonic and Keanu Reeves’ fans, but the former will probably not share the enthusiasm. Given that Reeves is set to be voicing Sonic’s rival Shadow, the main character’s fanaticism from the previous films may go a little bit down — and there’s a reason for it.
Keanu Reeves as Shadow Is a Full Circle For Sonic
In the first movie of the franchise that was released back in 2020, one of the scenes captures Sonic trying to become closer to his future best friend Tom by looking through the latter’s window and watching Keanu Reeves’ movie Speed with him.
When the film title emerges on the screen, Sonic expressed his unreserved admiration by saying “Yas! Keanu! You are a national treasure”. The hedgehog then continues after watching one of the film’s scenes: “Pop quiz, hot shot!' Ah, it's a classic line” making a gesture of the chef’s kiss with his paws.
Such a curious coincidence made many fans quickly take it to the internet to discuss whether the first movie indeed foresaw Keanu Reeves’ appearance in a later movie — or it’s rather a way of roasting Sonic for his unconditional love for the actor.
