Fans are getting ready to witness one more heartbreaking death...

General Hospital is a famous long-running soap opera that doesn't stop proving it is worthy of its genre.

The complex relationships between the characters, the twisted storylines, the random character departures and comebacks – everything is there, and the list goes on.

The worst part of it all is the fact that you never know what will happen to your beloved character in another episode, and if you will even see them again tomorrow.

And now fans are worried about the future of Gregory Chase as he recently told Alexis what was wrong with him and revealed that he has Lou Gehrig's disease. Needless to say, this kind of news left Alexis speechless.

For a while, she sensed that something was wrong with him, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

When she wanted to give him a job at The Invader, he went to great lengths to come up with various excuses as to why it was a bad idea and he shouldn't take the job.

He actually thought she would buy every little lie he told her as her friend, and never check it. But he was wrong.

Sure, Alexis was devastated when she found out that everything he said was a lie, but the news that Gregory's life could end very soon was just too much.

ALS, the disease Gregory has, is a disease that affects the body's motor neurons and muscles. There is no cure and no treatment of any kind.

So the only thing you can do is wait until the borrowed time to live is up. And this is a very real experience that the showrunners are about to make the character's closest family and friends suffer through.

As they suffer, so do the fans.

Can General Hospital be just a little more merciful to its fans? Maybe, the show's Reddit is trying to find that answer right now.
