Sofia Vergara Is Back On TV With Much Less Family-Friendly Show
Much less modern one as well.
Since Modern Family has aired its final episode on April 8, 2020, fans couldn’t wait for their favorite stars to return to screens in new projects. While Ariel Winter has been spending time working on her studies and such films as The Quarry and Bully, another fan favorite, Sofia Vergara, was still up to make her TV comeback.
Fortunately for all the Gloria fans out there, the long wait is over, and Sofia Vergara is officially back in a new Netflix- produced mini-series Griselda.
If you were longing to see the actress take on a completely different role in a completely different setup, you’re in luck, because Griselda promises to be nothing like what you’re used to seeing on Modern Family.
The show is named after Griselda Blanco, one of the most famous names in the history of crime. As a devoted mother as well as a powerful Colombian drug lord, also known as the Black Widow or Cocaine Godmother, Griselda has made history and now viewers will get to explore her story in the form of a show.
Sofia Vergara is involved in the project not only as the star, but also as the producer. As you can imagine, this required a certain level of dedication, which the actress showed both on set and behind the scenes. Vergara's passion was also admired by series co-creator Eric Newman:
“She had collected tons of images and stories and people who knew [Griselda Blanco]. And she had really gone deep on someone who felt the pressure that she felt. I think that she really understood what it was like. She's got a son and she came to this country as a young mother with not much of a plan,” he said in an interview with EW.
Filming for the mini-series began on January 17, 2022 in Los Angeles, Vergara and Newman were joined by Justified and Silo ’s Ingrid Escajeda as the showrunner. Griselda is set to premiere on Netflix in January 2024. Make sure to set your notifications to not miss Sofia Vergara’s grand TV-return.
