- The scene where Griselda personally executes one of her enemy’s men had the actress genuinely stressed out.
Netflix’s new TV show, Griselda, is based on the life and crimes of Griselda Blanco, Miami’s Cocaine Godmother. Portrayed by the brilliant Sofía Vergara, her character invites viewers in the drug and paranoia-fueled world of the notorious queenpin, but fans were not the only ones shocked by Griselda’s most brutal scenes.
Sofía Vergara Named Her Most Nerve-Wracking Scene
After Griselda ordered Papo Meija’s murder, her enemy survived — and in retaliation, he sent his men to decapitate the people in the Black Widow’s residence. Isabel, Griselda’s best friend and “most favorite person in the world,” as Vergara put it, was among the victims, and her death sent Griselda on a downward spiral.
Overcome with grief, the queenpin knew she had to show her people she’d avenge them personally, and in one of her raids, Griselda Blanco killed Papo Meija’s man. It was the most difficult scene to film in the entire series for Sofía Vergara who claims that this murder also ultimately defined Griselda’s future descent into darkness.
Sofía Vergara Was Terrified When Filming The Murder
The star actress noted that the most “genius” part of her hit was her refusal to use the dagger to murder her enemy. Even though everyone was expecting her to slit his throat, she couldn’t bring herself to do it — and in the end, she just unloaded a gun into his head. Despite that, after this murder, Griselda lost herself for good.
“I think this [murder] was the beginning of the end for her, I think she starts losing control. She starts getting very emotional, starts doing all the wrong things and taking the wrong decisions. <...> By Episode 6, this woman has become someone else and has completely stopped containing all those horrible personality traits that she had,” Sofía Vergara explained in Netflix’s Shot by Shot.
Vergara admitted that the entire scene had her on her toes, being even more nerve-wracking for her than for the audience. “My face here, it was not just acting: I was actually horrified about the scene that was coming that I had to film,” shared the actress. When you rewatch Episode 5, keep in mind that Sofía Vergara’s erratic movements and face tics were her genuine fear, and it will make the scenes even better.
