Definitely not Arya Stark, fans say.

The highly anticipated final season of the most important series of the 21st century turned out to be a complete failure. Almost every episode was met with discontent from viewers and critics, and the endings of some storylines simply infuriated many fans.

One such arc was the Night King's march over the Wall and the battle for Winterfell. But the thrill of the encounter turned to disappointment when one of the show's main antagonists was killed by Arya Stark, who leapt from a tree with her blade.

It was perhaps the most reckless decision the writers have made in the series' long history. And the fans decided to pick the characters who could put an end to the Night King and rid the world of the White Walkers.

One of the most popular theories surrounding the final season was the prophecy of Azor Ahai, the legendary hero destined to defeat the darkness. According to the prophecy, the deity would be reborn amidst smoke and salt, armed with a flaming sword, and lead the fight against the Night King.

Some fans expected to see the hero of the tales on the screen, but many viewers still leaned toward his reincarnation in the body of the resurrected rightful heir to the Iron Throne, Jon Snow. Ned Stark's former bastard had a unique connection to the White Walkers throughout the series.

He was the one who alerted the rest of Westeros to the threat of the dead taking over the kingdom. Jon's path was built on a sense of duty and determination to protect the realm, making him the perfect candidate to fulfill the prophecy.

Another fan favorite was Beric Dondarrion, a mysterious figure with the ability to resurrect at the will of the Lord of Light. The feisty warrior's storyline was intriguing, with the potential for a heroic and satisfying conclusion.

Who should have killed the Night King and freed the world from the threat of the White Walkers?

Throughout the series, Beric has been portrayed as a devoted follower of the Lord of Light, fighting for a greater cause. His burning sword and fierce faith were meant to deal the final blow to the Night King.

Fans still cannot forgive the showrunners for leaving the actions of Game of Thrones' most mysterious antagonist unexplained. Jon or Beric could have served as a great climax to the Night King storyline and given viewers a little satisfaction from the finale.
