Due to the Hollywood strikes of 2023, production of season 2 was put on hold shortly after it began, but that is no longer the case.

Summary:

  • The debut season of the Silo TV series turned out to be a huge success that few could have predicted
  • Unfortunately, it was released in the midst of the 2023 Hollywood strikes, which put season 2 production in jeopardy
  • Now, at last, filming has resumed, much to the excitement of fans

The debut season of the TV series Silo was a smashing success, captivating viewers with an intriguing story, great acting and impressive world-building of a society living in an isolated bunker after an apocalyptic event devastated the planet.

Based on the book series of the same name by Hugh Howey, it unexpectedly managed to not only please fans of the original, but also attract new audiences and spark interest in the novels.

Unfortunately, the first season premiered just days after the WGA strike of 2023 took effect, and the final episode was released in the middle of the crisis.

Although filming for the show's second season began in June, the second Hollywood strike initiated by SAG-AFTRA put production on hold just a month later, making it unclear when it would be released.

Fortunately, a new update on the show suggests that season 2 is now one step closer to seeing the light of day, as ScreenDaily reports that filming has resumed in the UK.

While no specific release date has been announced, it shouldn't be too long now that production is back in full swing, much to the delight of fans who have been dying for a second season.

And who could blame them, considering that while the season one finale provided some long-awaited answers, it also raised a whole host of new questions, making the mystery at the heart of the show's story even more convoluted.

Major spoilers ahead.

Silo Season 1 Finale Left Fans With More Questions Than Answers

Throughout the season, both the show's protagonist, Juliette Nichols, brilliantly portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson, and the audience have been led to believe that the world outside the titular Silo is not as bleak as it seems, and that its inhabitants have simply been manipulated into believing otherwise.

This was further supported by the scenes shown from the point of view of the Silo's exiles, who saw a sunny and prosperous picture that was nothing like the wasteland shown by the cameras, but only moments later all of them dropped dead for unknown reasons.

In a shocking twist, it was revealed that all of this was just a holographic display created for an obscure purpose, as when Juliette is exiled to the surface as well, she walks right through the display and sees that the world is indeed desolate, surviving the deadly environment only thanks to a secretly modified suit.

And that bombshell of a reveal wasn't even the only lingering mystery left over from the first season, with an obscure tunnel in the lowest flooded section of the Silo being mentioned.

Fans continue to speculate that it may be connected to other Silos, as when we see the wasteland in the final episode, it certainly seems that there are others besides the one where the story of the first season took place.

With so many secrets left and so much potential for future storylines, fans have been eager to see what the show's creators have in store for them.

Now all they need is at least an approximate release date for Silo season 2.
