Should You Watch 'Rings of Power' If You Never Watched 'Lord of the Rings'?
It may be tough to join a long-standing fandom with no prior knowledge, but it may also be worth it.
Amazon's 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power ' is premiering this week, and one might feel too scared to give it a watch in case one never watched the original trilogy or read the books. But should it really bother you?
Tolkien's universe is pretty wide and deeply thought-through, which may make it quite difficult for newcomers to understand. However, one should not be too afraid of giving it a look; after all, even if you are no expert in Middle-earth, it seems that 'Rings of Power' will not be as heavily reliant on the Tolkien works as one might expect.
With the events of the show taking place hundreds of years before 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' movies, one might as well start their fascination with Middle-earth after watching 'The Rings of Power' – if the show manages to grasp the spirit of the iconic universe.
Besides, 'The Rings of Power' will not require deep knowledge into characters and events of the original books and movies, as Amazon's prequel is set to introduce a handful of new characters and only explore several characters introduced by Tolkien.
However, if you do want to navigate yourself in Middle-earth, then you still have time for a LoTR marathon. The original movie trilogy consists of 'The Fellowship of the Ring', 'The Two Towers', and 'The Return of the King'. 'The Hobbit' film series includes 'An Unexpected Journey', 'The Desolation of Smaug', and 'The Battle of the Five Armies'.
Given that 'The Rings of Power' premieres on September 2, you might want to hurry up with that marathon, though. Or you can also allow yourself to just dive into a new and unexplored universe!
