Since ending two of her most famous TV roles in 2017, Laura Spencer has hardly appeared on our screens in the past six years.

From 2014 – 2017, the actor doubled up as Emily Sweeney, the dermatologist and probable serial killer who dates Raj in The Big Bang Theory and intern Jessica Warren in Bones.

Although she was originally signed on for just one episode of TBBT, Emily proved to be a popular character – and she coined the phrase "Clogzilla" to describe Howard, after revealing that he had previously suffered food poisoning and snuck out of her house after meeting her on a blind date.

Prior to that, she starred as Jane Bennet in the Lizzie Bennet Diaries. She received high acclaim for all three of these main/recurring roles as well as appearing in several other shows including Criminal Minds and Sleepy Hollow.

Spencer also had film credits between 2009 – 2017. Since then though, she has just two on-screen appearances to her name; she played Ms Rothrock in a 2021 episode of the Indigenous TV show Reservation Dogs and featured in the movie 13 Minutes which was widely panned, including in a piece by Rex Reed for The New York Observer in which he described it as "contrived in its efforts to keep the various plot lines connected".

Reed did, however, praise the acting in the film which he said included "compelling contributions" from a likeable cast.

In late 2019, Spencer married her long-term partner, producer Michael Jack Greenwald. The couple tend to keep out of the limelight, with Laura pretty quiet on social media for a celeb, and Michael choosing to keep his Instagram page private.

As such, little is known about what the pair have been up to in recent years and whether we're likely to see Laura taking on any new acting roles in the near future. But one thing's for sure. If she were to appear in upcoming shows, her TV resume to date would be enough to make her name draw in an audience – provided, of course, that it was made clear that Laura Spencer was Emily from The Big Bang Theory.

Because, for all her acting ability, it's likely that only a handful of hardcore TBBT fans would recognise her name on a schedule and instantly connect it with her fantastic portrayal in the hit sitcom.
