She-Hulk Finale Has an X-Men Hint, But You're Not Gonna Like It
Don't get too excited... or maybe do.
Warning: the following article contains spoilers for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 9
Over the past several months, the entire Marvel fandom has been excited about the possibility of X-Men finally being introduced in the MCU. The buzz started as soon as Ms. Marvel appeared to have made it official: Kamala Khan is the MCU's first mutant. But when are her counterparts coming?
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ninth and final episode appeared to have touched upon the topic, but definitely not in the way that would satisfy the fans who are dying of curiosity.
In the finale, Jennifer Walters smashes down the fourth wall — quite literally — and breaks into the writers' room to have a talk with K.E.V.I.N. — an AI parody on Kevin Feige who tries to persuade her that she is "too expensive" and needs to be shelved. Still, Jennifer is adamant to not only preserve her place in the MCU but also ask some pressing questions.
Among other things, she does ask K.E.V.I.N. about X-men and when can fans expect them in the MCU. However, the robotic parody of Kevin Feige is reluctant to give an answer.
Many fans have appreciated the trolling, but some were left furious, calling the She-Hulk finale one of the "worst episodes of Marvel ever".
Still, the X-Men reference in the finale might be a reason to be optimistic: after all, we know that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige knows what bothers fans and keeps an eye on that. Moreover, the growing number of nods to mutants in other MCU projects gives fans hope that X-Men are definitely not getting sidelined — even though it might mean that the fandom will have to brace for a long wait.
In the wake of Marvel's recent slew of delays that affected Blade, Deadpool 3, Fantastic Four, and Avengers: Secret Wars, it would be reasonable to suggest that X-Men are unlikely to arrive before 2025. But what if the long wait is worth it after all?
