There’s nothing sisterly about this move.

Summary:

  • Charmed was and still is one of the most popular fantasy shows of the late 90s and early 00s.
  • Shannen Doherty portrayed the eldest sister, Prue Halliwell, during 3 seasons of the show, but was fired after that.
  • According to Doherty, she was fired from the show because of an ultimatum from her co-star, Alyssa Milano.

If you were around in the '90s, you must remember what a phenomenon The WB's Charmed was when it premiered. The show about witch sisters kept viewers glued to their screens week after week, rooting for their favorites and despising the enemies the Halliwells had to face.

To this day, many believe that Charmed is superior to many other shows based on witchcraft. It managed to keep the magic fun even when the characters faced their darkest moments, but it also taught the importance of having the right environment and people around you. Charmed was a perfect example of the love of family.

Whatever happened behind the cameras of the show, however, turned out to be so sordid that it could have been used as the basis for a soap opera.

Shannen Doherty And Alyssa Milano Feud

Details of the feud between the two Charmed co-stars have been circulating on the Internet for years. Recently, however, Doherty came back to the topic to clear up some confusion that may still exist.

First of all, yes, she was fired from the show and did not leave voluntarily. Second, she was fired under the immense pressure the production team felt from her co-star Alyssa Milano, who allegedly gave her an ultimatum.

Holly Marie Combs, another Halliwell sister, told her side of the story on Doherty's Let's Be Clear podcast. She recalled the conversation she had with producer Jonathan Levin:

“I said, ‘Why would you hire her again just to fire her?’ And he said, ‘We didn’t mean to. We’ve been backed into this corner. We’re basically in a position where it’s one or the other. We were told that it’s her or me. Alyssa has threatened to sue us for a hostile workplace environment.”

According to Doherty, the reason for the tension between the two actresses was a difference in pay. As one of the original cast members of The WB, Doherty earned more than her on-screen sisters. This did not sit well with Milano, and the rift between the two began.

Hopefully, now that the actress has had a chance to get it all off her chest, it will be easier to move on. While some people are actively participating in another round of arguments that the podcast has started, others just want to enjoy the nostalgic 90's show without having it ruined by behind-the-scenes drama.

If you want to revisit Charmed, you can stream the show on Amazon Prime Video.
