SDCC 2022 Recap: Every Trailer Dropped on Thursday, July 21
We got dragons, vampires, wolves and treasures.
On Thursday San Diego Comic-Con gave us four new trailers, and they have already made enough buzz to get excited. Fantasy geeks rejoice as they decipher the new 'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves', while 'Teen Wolf ' fans fume over the long-anticipated 'Teen Wolf: The Movie'.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
The first trailer for yet another screen adaptation of the iconic table game 'Dungeons & Dragons' appears to be surprisingly satisfying for both regular fantasy movie lovers and hardcore D&D fans. Judging by the first look at 'Honor Among Thieves', the upcoming film managed to accumulate enough nods to the source material and combine them with a mainstream light-hearted live-action tone.
Feels like this far, D&D trailer is the absolute winner of the SDCC's first official day: almost all the fans are pretty excited about the upcoming movie:
"This actually looks like it’ll be genuinely fun. The cast looks super charismatic and it really gives off the group of idiots that stumble into some world threatening adventure, but they show how manage to BS their way through it somehow. Exactly like a DnD campaign usually goes," one of the fans wrote on YouTube.
Teen Wolf: The Movie
'Teen Wolf: The Movie', despite making a buzz, does not enjoy as many accolades from fans as the D&D adaptation does. Not only does the movie lack Stiles Stilinski – one of the most charismatic characters in the universe of 'Teen Wolf' – but also the trailer appears to be spoiling what could potentially be a big dramatic moment for the movie.
National Treasure: Edge of History
Disney Plus' 'National Treasure: Edge of History' offered a short teaser, introducing Lisette Olivera's Jess Morales, a young Dreamer on a mission to recover lost Pan-American treasure, who is set to unveil a lot of family secrets in the process. The first season is set to have ten episodes, and fans do hope that at some point they will get a long-awaited Nicolas Cage cameo in the show.
Vampire Academy
Peacock, for its part, unveiled a teaser trailer for 'Vampire Academy' – a supernatural drama series based on Richelle Mead's book series. Taking place in a glamorous royal society of vampires, the show is set to focus on a friendship between two young female vampires coming from different classes. The show, being yet another project of Julie Pleck of 'The Vampire Diaries ' fame, will be streaming on Peacock starting September 15. The viewers are generally positive so far, albeit somewhat confused:
"Watching this, I have no clue how to feel... some moments look amazing and like they'll stay true to the books, which is truly all I would want in a film/TV adaptation of VA, but other moments made me wonder if they'll deviate too much from the books for me to enjoy the show...," one of the original book series fans wrote on YouTube.
